2022.01.17 04:35 SoupedUpSpitfire System automatically deducting $200 from return price with no reason or warning?

TLDR: Best Buy kept $200 of my money and my laptop when trying to activate Geek Squad membership and warranty on a laptop I wanted to add protection to within the return period.
I was trying to activate Geek Squad Best Buy extended warranty protection on open-box laptops I bought my family for Christmas. They were within the return period. The store rep said they just needed to process it like I returned the computers and repurchased them so I could get the Geek Squad membership at the same time.
But when they attempted to return the first one the system refunded me $200 less than what I paid for the laptop (original price was about $550, but the refund amount it gave back was only $350).
I had the receipt with the correct serial number on it, I am a Best Buy Elite Plus member, there was no damage or anything missing, and I wasn't actually even wanting to return the laptop--I just wanted to add Geek Squad protection.
(This happened to me once previously when actually returning an open-box laptop, but I didn't know until I got home and looked at the emailed receipt. They did not give me a copy of the receipt in the store, and did not tell me that the refund was less than the purchase price.
I'm pretty sure the sales representative didn't realize the refund was less than the purchase price either time.
Last time this happened I spent a significant amount of time online talking to customer service while they kept passing me on to other people and researching and trying to figure out what happened, then finally they told me it was their mistake and would be fixed. They said they initiated a refund to go back on my credit card but I wouldn't get it for something like 2 to 6 weeks. That was over two weeks ago and I still haven't gotten the refund yet for that $200.)
In both cases the customer service rep did not even realize that the system was not refunding me full price until I looked at the receipt and realized that there was $200 missing. There was no alert or communication to either me or the customer service representative, no note on the receipt about a restocking fee or reason for an incomplete refund, nothing at all except that the return amount on the receipt was $200 less than the purchase price. There was no warning that the full price would not be refunded or opportunity to decide whether I wanted to still return the computer if I wasn't getting back the full price I paid for it or not.
Today, even the supervisor came over and tried to get the system to give me a full refund but could not figure it out. They also tried to cancel the return and just give me the computer back and not give me a refund at all, but the system wouldn't let them do that either.
The supervisor said once the return was completed the system couldn't even find the serial number in the computer, and then the computer was saying I had returned it for $900 and something (the current full retail price) even though they actually only gave me $350 back. So he thought maybe the system was glitching or something, but it didn't even make sense.
Again, I wasn't even wanting to return the computer this time. I wanted to keep it. I just wanted to buy a Geek Squad membership and activate Geek Squad protection on it, within the return period
In the end, they couldn't figure out how to fix it in the system or get a hold of anybody who could override it, so they said that I had to leave my laptop there and couldn't take it home with me since the system had already initiated a partial refund so that meant it technically belonged to Best Buy now even though I wasn't actually trying to return it. So I had to leave without my $200 or my laptop.
They said they are going to try to fix it tomorrow, but the issue that is complicating it is that I had bought the computer as an open box deal, so the system apparently can't handle doing a refund or exchange on an open box laptop even though it was within the return period.
Has anyone ever heard of this before? There is nothing I can find in the Best Buy return policy about a restocking fee on open box laptops returned with no damage or parts missing within the exchange window. It doesn't seem like it can be legal for them to just keep $200 of my money without even telling me. And without giving me the option to cancel the return and keep the computer if they are only going to give me a refund of less than 60% of what I paid for it.

2022.01.17 04:35 somerandomguy101010 Bulls may actually be fuk

So I keep reading bulls are fuk. I couldn’t understand why so I decided to dig shallowly into the cattle world to find out. I first checked live cattle data from all across the internet. Live cattle future prices went from a low of $86.50 on April 19 2020 to a high of $138.90 on December 26 2021, almost doubling in that time. It amazed me that while most were celebrating the 4/20 holiday, spectators started grabbing up all the live cattle they could get. It peaked my interest so I googled for another 10 minutes.
I found an article on from successful farming linked below that states “Improved demand prospects as COVID-19 numbers slid into the midsummer helped provide longer-term demand expectations.” As it turns out live cattle are also a cynical commodity that tend to boom in the summer grilling months and wane during the winter holidays. But there were no pullbacks in the 2021 cycle. It led me to an article on thepigsite which stated "The slaughter has been extremely high, said Joe Kooima, commodity broker at Kooima Kooima Varilek Trading Inc. Its just the market anticipating a cattle cycle where we've had enough go to slaughter, there's not going to be as many numbers."
The uptick in demand for cattle caused prices to boom while there didnt seem to be enough supply to meet it. It led me to an article from thecattlesite confirming that point that states “Consumers have continued to stock up on groceries as they hunker down at home to curb the spread of the Omicron-variant. Denis said demand over the last five months has been as high or higher than it had been in March 2020 at the beginning of the pandemic.”
My interpretation of this data suggests that more cattle will in fact have to be culled to keep up with demand and possibly bulls are becoming harder to find. I’m sure we have all noticed the reduced selection and increasing prices. Bulls truly are fuk and it makes me happier to be human.

I enjoy it when when people lose someone they love that uses Reddit
This joy is in no way sexual. But watching friends/family members suffer in their own self loathing after anything from suicide to an accident or even Redditor deaths from military or illness really brightens my day. On one one hand I’m sad if they have barely any karma (<15k) because maybe they actually had a life and didn’t spend all their time on Reddit. But watching people be so insanely distraught over the loss of their family/friend Redditor is just the best thing to me. I genuinely, genuinely could not care less for a Redditor and I don’t see their worth whatsoever. And their stupid social media “angel friend/daughteson” posts damn near make me bust out laughing at their attention grabbing, especially their howling of “what could have been”
Of course, when I interact with a Redditor I’m nice, unfortunately their suffering is collateral damage in my enjoyment.

2022.01.17 04:35 bratintensifies My dad pretended to throw me a fancy surprise party at 15 to guilt-trip me.

So I’ve told this story maybe four times in the past two weeks. I can’t really get over it. My dad was a father growing up. He taught me how to work, how to pay bills. He taught me how to sit up straight and have manners. He put a roof over my head and food in my belly.
But holy shit, he was a terrible dad. I was his little housewife minus anything sexual. I would cook him dinner, have the house cleaned when he came home, and would sit with him at the dinner table until bedtime listening to him talk about how much he hated work, my mom (his ex wife), and life in general.
There’s some bad stories. But it’s like my brain is focused on this one right now. It’s all I can think about. And every time someone reacts to it it just makes me think of it more.
I was about 14 or 15. Closer to the age that I was beginning to realize my dad was a POS. It was a week before my birthday, and my out-of-town grandparents (on my moms side) came to town and asked to take me and my younger sister to lunch. My dad said yes. So they took us to a fancy Mexican restaurant and we all enjoyed lunch together. Then they dropped my sister and I off at home.
My dad had locked himself in his bedroom. It was about 4pm, and all the lights in the apartment were off. There was a note on the dining table. Now, I had a really traumatic childhood. So I can’t exactly remember word for word what the note said. But I can paraphrase.
“Way to go. You ruined your own surprise party. There was a cake and all your friends waiting at (fancy lodge 45 minutes out of town). But you chose them over me. Now your cake is ruined. Hope you’re happy.”
Almost immediately I started crying. I felt so bad. Why hadn’t he told me before? Why had he said yes to allowing my grandparents to take us for lunch? And then deep down, I thought, hmm, maybe he’s lying…
I banged on his bedroom door for a while, crying and apologizing. He never answered or came out. The next day, I apologize profusely, and asked maybe if the cake was still salvageable. He brushed me off. He brushed off every other attempt that I brought up to talk about the fancy lodge party.
Looking back, I know it was for sure a lie. A) My dad would NEVER ever take my somewhere nice. His idea of nice is Chinese food. Which is totally fair! But the fancy lodge was very fancy. B) My friends knew nothing about the party. C) My dad couldn’t stay sober enough to drive us to Wal-Mart 10 minutes away, let alone to a place 45 minutes out of town, stay sober the whole dinner, then stay sober to drive us back.
Sometimes I genuinely wonder why he had to hurt me so much as a child. I asked him about it the other day and all I got was “Gee thanks. At work.”

2022.01.17 04:35 johnversion2 How safe is it to sit late at night in a rural area with plenty of wildlife?

My backyard is next to a mountain that has bears, rattlesnakes, coyotes, mountain lions, bob cats, racoons, squirrels and quite a few other animals. In the far end of my yard I have a bench where I like to drink coffee late at night. It's a pretty relaxing spot, but in how much danger am I in? In my CCTV I've caught all the aforementioned animals crossing my yard at night. How likely are for one of those animals to attack me if I'm just sitting alone on a bench late at night?

I'm looking to play some VR games with my partner, I have two computers and headsets but unsure what would work well in a limited play space.
I was hoping there might be a game made around this, where you could set where the other player is, so the physical player is correct in relation to the ingame character.

2022.01.17 04:35 rawrr_monster Why is working the floor such bullshit?

I got floated to this “stepdown” unit tonight and I’m just so frustrated by the inane shit that having even minimally competent management could help address. Beyond the lack of PPE on this unit (2 yearsssss into the pandemic), there’s a lack of other basic shit.
Not enough COWs for every nurse to have one.
The vital signs monitors in the room don’t flow into the chart, even though they show up on the central monitors.
Not enough CHAIRS for everyone to sit down at once. Do people in office jobs get forced to stand up at their desk as much as nursing is forced to?
No outlets? There’s a billion shit that needs plugged in and there’s 2 outlets per hallway. Can nobody buy some fucking surge protector things that add like 10 outlets?
No thermometers. I swear everyone is making up their temps.
No glucometer, 32 patients and 2 glucometer. Why??
I’m over it

Hey all,
I contracted covid just before new years. It's been over 2 weeks already and I am still plagued by extreme fatigue and still haven't got my smell or taste back. I'm sleeping up to 16 hours a day and my brain is shrouded in fog. For anyone who has experienced this before how much longer will this go for? It is so debilitating and depressing.
I am 34, male otherwise relatively healthy and double vaxxed.
